2018 Honda Civic vs 2018 Toyota Camry

Serving Hamilton, Trenton, and West Windsor, NJ

The 2018 Honda Civic and Toyota Camry compete against each other in the mid-size sedan market. Available with a turbocharged engine and a continuously variable transmission, the Civic is more dynamic than the Camry. Both cars have GPS navigation systems with touch screens and colored maps, but the Civic has better smartphone integration. Additionally, the Honda Sensing technology offers better assistance on the road than the Toyota Safety Sense package.

Powertrain

When designing the powertrain for the 2018 Honda Civic, the engineers emphasized a reduction in the engine block without any major sacrifices on total output. Having a displacement of only 1.5 L, the turbocharged engine in this sedan is capable of whipping out approximately 175 horsepower. The peak torque rating for the turbo engine is just under 170 lb-ft when the tachometer hits 1,700 RPM. Toyota's designers decided to avoid a turbo option for the 2018 Camry. Instead, this model offers a 2.5 L engine with the Dynamic Force technology. You can also opt for a traditional V6 engine in this Toyota sedan. However, the 3.5 L displacement of this engine seems more bulky and less responsive than the Civic's compact turbo unit. Based on successful integration in previous years, the Eco Assist technology returns under the hood of this Honda. As the name suggests, this mechanical function ensures an economical drive in normal conditions. A continuously variable transmission keeps the Civic rolling with confidence on any track. This CVT is available in two editions that are tuned for sporty handling on curves, tight corners and hills.

Infotainment

The Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation in the 2018 Civic has been dramatically enhanced to provide superb guidance. Having a touch screen with an interface that mimics smartphones and tablets, this navigation system comes with 3-D maps and traditional 2-D maps that are powered by Garmin technology. You can use the Predictive Local Search to speed up the extraction of information from the database. The Lane Guidance is another advanced feature in the navigation software. Available in select Toyota Camry models, the Entune 3.0 system also boasts the latest digital technology, such as the Dynamic Navigation with POI Search. Both sedans are connected to music channels on HD Radio and SiriusXM Satellite Radio. Pandora Internet Radio can also be activated in the Civic, which offers a 10-speaker sound system that generates up to 450 acoustic watts. You can't choose more than nine speakers for the Camry. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and HondaLink highlight the Civic's superiority in smartphone compatibility.

Driving Assistance

The Adaptive Cruise Control in the 2018 Civic gets the all-new Low-Speed Follow function that lessens the risk for a crash on the highway. This sedan will also come to a complete stop if the Collision Mitigation Braking comes on. You'll have some time to take manual braking action after getting alerts from the Forward Collision Warning. Whether you're drowsy or distracted, the Lane Departure Warning will immediately notify you of erratic movements on a road with multiple lanes. The Road Departure Mitigation can automatically steer the car into the center of a lane. Another driving aide that's available in the Civic is the Honda LaneWatch. The Toyota Camry is also loaded with advanced accident-avoidance features, including the Pre-Collision and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Overall, the Honda Sensing provides better value than the Toyota Safety Sense technology.
