Two of the most popular Hondas and perhaps industry-wide, in their respective classes are the Honda Civic and the Honda Accord. Recent advances in design for both vehicles have elevated their appearance and performance values. The Honda Civic was redesigned in 2016, and the Honda Accord found itself with a new look and feel in 2018. Each vehicle has its advantages for drivers and passengers that make both models a sought-after commodity.

What's the Differences in Performance?

Both the Civic and the Accord, in their original forms produced by Honda nearly 30 years ago, were considered underpowered. The power issue no longer exists as the standard engines and transmissions for each vehicle meet or exceed that of competitors in their class. Both cars also have optional engines and transmissions that increase power and torque beyond that considered normal in their categories. The standard engine in the base trim of the Honda Civic is a 2.0-Liter Inline 4-Cylinder driving force that produces 158-horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque. Coupled with a new-to-the-industry 6-speed manual transmission the powertrain brings 28 mpg city/40 mpg highway/32 mpg combined.* Bear in mind that the optional 1.5-Liter Turbocharged engine is the same as the standard engine in the Accord. The Accord 1.5-Liter Turbocharged Inline 4-Cylinder engine produces 192-horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque with a fuel economy ratio of 30 mpg city/38 mpg highway/33 mpg combined.* Opting for the 1.5-Liter engine in the Civic gives the Civic the highest power rating in its class while the same engine in the Accord provides the vehicle with more power than most in its respective category.

What's the Difference in Appearance?

One of the largest differences between the Civic and the Accord is in design formats offered. The Accord comes in the 4-door sedan format only. Albeit, that design rid itself of the 3-box look in favor of the swept roofline appearance in 2018, the Civic offers the same 4-door design and also a 2-door option and a hatchback that complete a variable appearance. The Civic is shorter in both length and height with a 5.1-inch shorter wheelbase. The Accord is 2.5 inches wider than the Civic, 1.4 inches taller, and 10 inches long. The longer wheelbase contributes more interior room for passengers and cargo. While the room in the front seats is the same for both vehicles, the back seat of the Civic provides 38 inches of legroom compared to the 41 inches in the back seat of the Accord. Cargo space in the Civic comes in at 15.1 cubic-feet which is ample room for grocery or picnic runs. The Accord, thanks to its greater length, gives a luxurious 20.4 cubic-feet of cargo room.

What's the Difference in Features?

Both the Honda Civic and Honda Accord are full of features. Both vehicles come with a touchscreen interface, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Honda Link smartphone apps, Satellite and HD radios, and enough USB ports to handle as many phones and devices as there are occupants. The significant difference in features between the two vehicles is the size and controls of the touchscreen interface. Where the touchscreen in the Civic is 7 inches, the touchscreen in the Accord is 8 inches. The controls used on the interface involve contact with the touchscreen. The Accord touchscreen features control knobs along with touchscreen controls making the device more user-friendly.
