Two of the finest midsize cars on the planet both come from Honda: the 2016 Civic and Accord. The cars are available in 2- and 4-door models. The Civic is all-new for 2016, with dramatic styling, improved engines and new tech and safety features. The Accord is the benchmark sedan in its class, and has been freshened for 2016 with a more rigid structure, revamped front end, Honda Sensing Package on all trims, and remote start, LED headlights, heated rear seats, rain-sensing wipers and auto high beam on upper trim levels.

PowerTrain

The 2016 Civic comes with a base 2.0L I-4 engine packing 158 horsepower, 138 lb-ft of torque and 31/41 city/highway mpg* with the automatic CVT transmission. You can opt for the 1.5L turbo I-4 with 174 horsepower, 162 lb-ft and 31/42 mpg*. The larger 2016 Accord is equipped with a 2.4L I-4 delivering 185 horsepower, 181 lb-ft and 27/37 mpg* with the CVT automatic. The optional engine is the 3.5L V6 that provides 278 horsepower, 252 lb-ft and 21/34 mpg*.

Dimensions

The Accord is 10.2 inches longer than the Civic, and its wheelbase is 3 inches longer. The Civic weighs almost 500 pounds less than the Accord, and it sits 2 inches less high. The turning diameter of the Civic is 35.7 feet, and 38.1 feet for the Accord. Surprisingly, the Civic has more front headroom, but the Accord has a larger interior, with 5.4 more cubic feet of passenger space and 0.7 cubic feet of extra trunk space.

Features

Both models are equipped with driver, passenger, front head curtain, front side and rear head curtain air bags. A popular available feature is Honda Sensing, which includes road-departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, lane departure warning and collision-mitigation braking. Other safety features are LaneWatch, which utilizes a camera to show you what is lurking in the right-side blind spot, and a rearview camera. Accord offers a multi-angle rearview camera. For 2016, the Civic now offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration. The Accord has a standard 160-watt AM/FM/CD stereo system with Bluetooth, USB input and Pandora. The upgrade unit in the Accord is a 7-speaker, 360W audio system. The Civic offers a premium 10-speaker, 450W system and a one-touch power moonroof. The Accord can be equipped with 18- and 19-inch wheels, the Android and CarPlay features, leather seating, heated front seats, heated side mirrors, rear spoiler, remote engine start, sport grille and illuminated doorsill. Both models offer LED headlights and HomeLink remote system.
