Serving Hamilton, Trenton, and Lawrence Township, NJ

The battle for top spot in the mid-size sedan is one of the most ardently fought. Both the Honda Accord and Nissan Altima have long been locked in a battle for the coveted top slot, especially with buyers in and around Hamilton, Robbinsville, Trenton, Lawrence Township, and West Windsor, NJ. The Accord and Altima are two of the most popular vehicles in this class in our area, however, there are a number of differences between them. Our comparison lets you see some of the more important differences and is designed to help you make the right decision for you are your family.

Performance

Of all the features our customers in and around Hamilton, Robbinsville, Trenton, Lawrence Township, and West Windsor place on their priority list, performance, power, and fuel efficiency sit at the very top. In reality what most drivers need is a carefully orchestrated balance between all three. The 2016 Honda Accord starts out at the base trim level with a 2.4 liter inline four-cylinder engine that produces 185 hp and delivers 181 ft-lb of torque to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. This combination offers plenty of acceleration and nets an EPA estimated 23/34 mpg.

On the other hand the 2016 Altima comes with a 2.5 liter inline four-cylinder engine in the base trim level. This engine, despite having slightly more displacement, offers only 182 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. Moreover, it is connected to the front wheels via a CVT offering less overall power and slower acceleration from stop lights and out on the open highway.

Interior

When you stop to consider that both of these vehicles are in the same class and similarly priced, you might think they come similarly equipped. Such is not the case as the 2016 Honda Accord comes with a host of standard equipment including dual-zone automatic climate control, floor mats, and folding side mirrors. None of these features come standard in the 2016 Nissan Altima.

Space is always a major concern in any new car, especially in the mid-size sedan market. The 2016 Honda Accord offers more hip, head, and shoulder room in the front and more leg and head room in the rear than the Nissan Maxima, making it far more comfortable on long trips and for taller passengers. The Accord with 15.8 cubic feet of trunk space also comes out ahead of the Altima's 15.4 cubic feet.

Safety

As you might expect, both the 2016 Accord and Altima come with a host of standard safety features including a wealth of airbags, four wheel antilock brakes, and electronic traction and stability controls. All Accords come with a rearview camera, EX trims and above also get the LaneWatch blind-spot monitoring system. Among the many other available safety features are forward collision warning with mitigation and automatic braking, land and road departure intervention, and lane departure warning. These are part of the Honda Sensing package which is standard on the Accord Touring trim level and is available on other trim levels.
