What's New for the 2018 Honda Civic?

Several decades and multiple challengers later, the Honda Civic still remains the compact vehicle to beat. Credit that to its reputation for being an unparalleled all-rounder; it has proved to be highly reliable and durable, save a ton of money on gas, fun to drive, and appeal to a wide range of customers with a vast array of trim combinations and body styles. Early in its tenth production cycle with its 2018 model year, the Civic now claims the K20C2-a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine that produces 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque-as its standard engine. However, you do have the choice of upgrading to the L15B7, which is a 1.5-liter turbocharged I4 that produces 174 horsepower and up to 167 lb-ft of torque. The Civic engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission for greater control over gear shifting or a continuously variable transmission (CVT) for a smoother and more convenient operation. By combining the 1.5-liter turbo I4 and the CVT, you can achieve a peak fuel economy of 32 mpg in the city and 42 mpg on the highway.

Depending on trim or body style, the 2018 Honda Civic has a maximum occupancy of four or five people. Standard comfort and convenience features on the new Civic include Bluetooth® wireless technology for hands-free phone operation and audio streaming, automatic climate control, a USB data port for playing music from your mobile device, a four-speaker 160-watt audio system, and a 5-inch color LCD screen. Optional or added on upper-level trims are features like leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, front-seat heating ability, dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, hands-free text messaging ability, proximity keyless entry with push-button start, eight- or 10-speaker audio, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ for smartphone-based control, and a navigation system.

To protect occupants in the event of a car crash, the 2018 Civic is equipped with a pair of front impact airbags, dual front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and a pair of roof-mounted side curtain airbags. Also standard on the Civic are electronic vehicle stability control, a multi-angle rearview camera, traction control, LED daytime running lights, an anti-lock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, and brake assist. Advanced safety technologies such as adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation, and blind spot monitoring with Honda LaneWatch™ are more likely to appear on upper-level models.
