Jessie Armstead of Hamilton Honda inducted into New York Giants' exclusive Ring of Honor October 4th, 2010 9:02 pm ET By Sean Wolfington, Auto Industry Trends Examiner
Jessie Armstead, co-owner of Hamilton Honda, one of the top Honda dealers in the nation, is among the 30 leading men being inducted into the New York Giants' newly created Ring of Honor, which recognizes the iconic figures who have contributed to the success and history of the 86-year-old franchise.
Just hours before Sunday night's matchup against the Chicago Bears, the Giants released the full list of inductees: executives, coaches and players who have ultimately helped the team win seven NFL championships and nearly 650 games, and whose names will be displayed in the end zones of the $1.7 billion New Meadowlands Stadium during every Giants home game.
Those honored include franchise founder Tim Mara; fellow owners Wellington Mara, Jack Mara and Bob Tisch; George Young, the general manager who built two Super Bowl-winning teams; and championship-winning coaches Steve Owen, Jim Lee Howell and Bill Parcells.
The 22 players recognized are Mel Hein, Ken Strong, Tuffy Leemans, Emlen Tunnell, Frank Gifford, Rosie Brown, Sam Huff, Andy Robustelli, Y.A. Tittle, Harry Carson, Lawrence Taylor, Al Bozis, Charlie Conerly, Dick Lynch, Joe Morrison, Pete Gogolak, George Martin, Phil Simms, Michael Strahan, Jessie Armstead, Amani Toomer and Tiki Barber.
"Words can't describe it," Armstead said in reaction to his inclusion in the Ring of Honor. "You get chills because you always feel like there are others who are greater than you who should go up there. It's just an honor. It's amazing knowing that you're among all these great players and great people and to be with the best organization in football."
Armstead was a five-time pro-bowler during his 12-year run in the NFL with the New York Giants and Washington Redskins. Earlier in the week, he had been called into the Giants locker room by head coach Tom Coughlin to address the defense after the team's previous losses to the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans. The result was a 17-3 win over the Bears on Sunday night.
Armstead now co-owns Hamilton Honda in Hamilton, New Jersey, with Mike Saporito, leading one of the top 10 largest and fastest growing Honda dealerships in the nation. The dealership, known for its friendly customer service and 65,000-square foot state-of-the-art facility, now boasts a new award for its mini-museum with artifacts from the brightest moments of Armstead's NFL career.
